Tommy Kovac has been writing and illustrating comics since 1999.  He wrote & illustrated the original series, “Stitch," "Skelebunnies," and "Autumn," through SLG Publishing.

Kovac then wrote “Wonderland for SLG/Disney, a new look at Lewis Carroll's classic Alice stories, illustrated by Sonny Liew.  It was selected for the American Library Association’s “Great Graphic Novels For Teens” list for 2010.

Kovac’s latest writing project is, “The Royal Historian of Oz.”  This 5-issue comic book series takes a unique look at L. Frank Baum’s Oz through the eyes of a failed writer named Jasper Fizzle, and his teenage son, Frank.  “Royal Historian” is illustrated by Andy Hirsch, and available from SLG Publishing.

Kovac’s storytelling ranges from naughty, to tragic, to fantastical, depending on the project.  He has no formal training in art or writing, but reads all the time, and belongs to the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, as well as a writer’s critique group.  Sometimes he also creates zines filled with thoughtful essays, dirty drawings, spontaneous cartoons, and weird activity pages.

Kovac currently works full-time as a library technician for a 7th-12th grade college prep academy, and resides in Orange County, California, with his handsome husband, Anthony.  (20 years and counting!)

They adopted a lovely little Chihuahua-mix named Esther in 2010.
